TYD works slowly over a period of time which allows the animal’s
own immune system to help balance the thyroid gland.

Diagnosis:

There are no symptoms unique to thyroiditis. If the thyroiditis causes slow and chronic thyroid cell damage and destruction, leading to a fall in thyroid hormone levels in the blood, the symptoms would be those of hypothyroidism.

If the thyroiditis causes rapid thyroid cell damage and destruction, the thyroid hormone that is stored in the gland leaks out, increasing thyroid hormone levels in the blood, and produces symptoms of thyrotoxicosis, which are similar to hyperthyroidism.

A veterinarian will perform blood tests to check the TSH levels. Other blood tests will be performed to conclude the baseline prediction of the out of normal range TSH levels in the first test.

Standard Treatment:

Hypothyroidism is easier to treat than hyperthyroidism. A veterinarian will put your pet on a synthetic thyroid hormone for the rest of its life. A veterinarian will look at 3 alternatives with hyperthyroidism. The vet will prescribe an anti-thyroid drug, surgically remove the thyroid or treat with radioactive iodine.

TYD Suggested Use:

For each one ounce bottle, the number of pets that receive a full ten day course of TYD is determined by calculating the total absolute dose based on weight (see chart).*For heavier pets, add 5 drops for each 100 lbs. increment.

Long Term Use:

After the first six months of long term use, up to three times daily administration, a two week break from product is mandated before re-starting the same rotating schedule. TYD may be administered as described for up to three consecutive six month cycles.

If further TYD is deemed necessary for the pet, then a minimum six month period off product is mandated, as is clinical discussion with your veterinary health care provider.
